WHAT: Our focus of the day will be to get you playing the handpan with ease, as well as inform about the history and origins of the instrument, showcase and explain the different scales and how to approach them, techniques to help explore new sounds, learn some basic rhythms and song structure, as well as a mindset to leave our class excited to practice and continue to deepen your connection and understanding of handpans.
WHO: Justin Ezor is a Los Angeles based percussionist rounding his second decade practicing and performing. He adapted his jazz, rock and funk roots to the spiritual world of handpan and has been dedicated to this new direction. He has a unique meditative style and has performed at hundreds of sound healings all over the world. His passion for teaching others comes from the conviction that he can help them express themselves and go on to share their blessings with the world. Justin has become a leading resource of handpan education in California and online!
Stevan Morris, our second teacher/host for the workshop, is the maker of Hamsa Handpans! Stevan has an extensive background studying music since a young age, going on to continue studies in percussion at a music conservatory, ultimately leading to his introduction to the handpan and his new focus in life. He has dedicated the last 15 years of his life to creating this instrument, as well as creating community around it. Stevan is also the founder of the longest running handpan event in the USA, the Pantasia Handpan Festival, established in 2013 in Joshua Tree, CA. Hope to see you there spring 2027!
